Renting an inflatable for the first time? There are a few important things to know before you book that will save you time, money and stress on the day of your event. Here are the 10 most important things every first-time renter should know.
1. Measure Your Space First
Every inflatable has a minimum space requirement. Before booking, measure your available outdoor or indoor space. Most inflatables need at least 2 feet of clearance on all sides. Always check the dimensions listed for the specific rental you're interested in.
2. You Need a Power Outlet Nearby
All inflatables run on electric blowers. You need a standard outlet within 50–100 feet of the setup area. If there's no outlet nearby, you'll need a generator. Tell your rental company about your power situation when booking.
3. The Surface Matters
Inflatables can be set up on:
- Grass (ideal — the anchoring stakes hold best)
- Concrete or asphalt (requires sandbag anchoring instead of stakes)
- Indoor hard floors (many inflatables can go indoors)
Always tell your rental company what surface you have so they bring the right anchoring equipment.
4. Book at Least 2–3 Weeks in Advance
Popular inflatables — especially on summer weekends — book out weeks in advance. Last-minute bookings often mean limited selection. Book early to get exactly what you want.
5. Your Rental Includes Delivery and Setup
A reputable rental company handles all delivery, setup, and takedown. You don't need to do anything except make sure the space is clear and accessible. Our team arrives before your event, has everything ready to go, and returns after to take everything down.
6. Water Slides Need a Garden Hose Connection
If you're renting a water slide, you need access to a garden hose. The hose connects to the slide to keep the surface wet. Make sure there's a hose outlet within reach of the setup area.
7. Weather Affects Water Slides More Than Bounce Houses
Bounce houses can operate in light rain and cool weather. Water slides need warm weather to be enjoyable. Most rental companies have a weather policy — ask about their cancellation and rescheduling terms before booking.
8. Safety Rules Are Non-Negotiable
Every inflatable comes with safety guidelines:
- No shoes, glasses or sharp objects inside
- No roughhousing or flipping
- No food or drinks inside the inflatable
- Always have an adult supervisor watching
- Separate younger and older children if possible
- Follow the maximum occupancy limits
9. Mechanical Bulls Require a Trained Operator
If you're renting a mechanical bull, a trained operator is required (and included in your rental). Never let a mechanical bull operate without a professional operator present — it's a safety requirement.
10. You Don't Need to Be Home for Drop-Off
As long as access to the setup area is available (gate unlocked, path clear), most rental companies can set up without you being there. Just make sure to communicate access instructions when booking.
Final Checklist Before You Book
- Measured your available space
- Confirmed a power outlet is nearby
- Know what surface type you have (grass, concrete, indoor)
- Have a garden hose if booking a water slide
- Planned for an adult supervisor
- Understood the cancellation/weather policy
Once those boxes are checked, you're ready to book with confidence and enjoy a stress-free party day!
